Here's an excellent example of a series that gets progressively worse. We got some great episodes in the first seasons, but when the 3rd hit, it was obvious that they were running out of ideas. Several season 5 episodes are already based on Earth. I know, right? Earth? In SGA? What the hell.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Characters:

John Sheppard - great character. For whatever reason TPTB kept advertising that he gets darker in the 'next' season. Yet he never does. Huh.
Dr. Rodney McKay - another great character, although sometimes very annoying.
Teyla Emmagan - I have no idea. She never had much point for being there.
Ronon Dex - you're kidding, right?
Radek Zelenka - best character in the show. Fact.
Dr. Elizabeth Weir - never liked her. The SG1 actor was better. Why they killed her off is beyond me.
Dr. Carson Beckett - another great character. His resurrection was a real copout though.
Dr. Jennifer Keller - people call season 5 the Keller season. I guess they don't like her.
Todd - coolest wraith you'll ever meet.
Steve - honorary mention. The first named wraith.
Michael - the emo not-really-wraith. Gets annoying real fast. I bet he's still alive.
Aiden Ford - LOL.

Overused concepts:

Replicators - seriously, who isn't sick of them? WHY bring them over from SG1? And even there they lost their appeal when they got their human form. Lots of small robots made of LEGO blocks is a much more intimidating enemy. It's kind of like when the Borg in Star Trek got a face in the form of a queen. Faceless enemy == better.
The dreaded deus ex machina ending - almost every episode ends with a deus ex machina here. The biggest one would be the wormhole travel in the last episode. So you're saying Atlantis can fold space now that the wraith are racing to Earth? HOW VERY CONVENIENT! *rolls eyes*
TEH CHOSEN BABY - we already had that one in SG1. Real original, guys.
The Asgard - so why are they here again?

Wasted potential:

The Genii - very cool villains. For whatever reason the showrunners decided to downplay them.
The Travelers - I think we only saw them twice. Too bad, they were a rather interesting group of humans.

Just seriously dumb:

Earth-based episodes - what, wasn't Pegasus interesting anymore? Whatever happened to exploring planets and finding new civilizations/technologies? I guess it would help if they stopped using that forest in their backyard.
Injectable Ancient DNA - what a copout.
Vegas - ... I have no words for this.

Overall:

4/10
Good riddance.
Hire some new writers and fire the old ones. Maybe then I'll watch SGU.

I had a nightmare last night. I think I had a bit of a fever as well, which made the thing even more realistic. In my dream I was compressing video. Yeah, that's right. And what's even worse about it, I was using the DivX codec to compress it. No matter how much I tried to switch to Xvid or x264 or something it always came up DivX. And the DivX watermark logo always appeared on the video. And I couldn't really tell what was on the video either. Besides the horrible watermark that is.

Thank you for your attention. I'll go back to drinking some strange german tea now. With black rum. Tee-hee. ^^
