Intermission

I got sick of Maarjo staring at me every time I visited this site. So here's a whole bunch of nothing to get rid of him/her.

I just wanted to share this with you. We took it when I was visiting my parents on the St John's day and I completely forgot about it until now. A nice piece of art, not exaggerated or anything. ^^

Greetings to the author, whoever he might be.

Ordi...

So there's this company called Ordi. Among other things it sells hardware and our office has been a loyal client to it for some time now. Yesterday another machine was delivered, though ridiculously late I'd say.
About 10 minutes from booting up, the computer started making a strange noise. After a quick inspection, the following problem was identified:

Filler #4

2008-06-19 14:38:38 — n0nst0p (filler,programming)
A while back I made a program to generate a list of valid Estonian personal id numbers for a certain birth date and gender. It's quite useful for quering some databases and doing background checks with limited access to personal data. ;)
Yesterday I saw Tõnu Samuel's article in the AM magazine (page 77) and he mentioned the same algorithm, so I figured, I'll save people some time and make this code public.

The important bit is here:
 Language: cpp
  1. bool validate(unsigned char sn[11]) {
  2. int sum=0;
  3. for (int i=0; i<10; i++) {
  4. sum+=sn[i]*(i==9?1:(i+1));
  5. }
  6.
  7. int mod=sum%11;
  8. if (mod<10 && mod==sn[10])
  9. return true;
  10.
  11. if (mod==10) {
  12. sum = sn[0]*3 + sn[1]*4 + sn[2]*5 + sn[3]*6 + sn[4]*7 + sn[5]*8 +
  13. sn[6]*8 + sn[7]*1 + sn[8]*2 + sn[9]*3;
  14. mod=sum%11;
  15. if (mod<10 && mod==sn[10])
  16. return true;
  17. if (mod==10 && sn[10]==0)
  18. return true;
  19. }
  20. return false;
  21. }

You can get the whole source from here and here's the algorithm for the above validation process.

Hmm, i'll be darned, i can still type. Amazing. You ask "WTFOMGBBQ MUHV U SUXXORS Y U NO WRIT BLOG?!" and i answer "bugger of, newb".
Me? Apart from having a life, I've picked up Assassin's Creed. Jolly game indeed. The poor blokes who made Princes of Persia would be really, REALLY sad if someone else, other than themselves would've made this game.
Since i'm a not a freak, i only game on the PC. So, here's a review of sorts on the PC version... do NOT expect much, however.
Believe it or not, but 2 days before picking up this game, i completed the Princes of Persia. Just for the fun of it... and glad to see that they fixed most of the stuff that annoyed me for AC.
Now, i know it's a different game and whatnot, but let's face it: same shit all over again: shiny combat where you don't have to do anything, climbing on in, on, over, next to, under, around buildings and shit. And finally, the fabled "storytelling" mode again.
Not that there's anything wrong with it. In all honesty, however, they missed one crucial point: The bloody gameplay. As i said, the game's awesome and seems sandboxy.. but it actually is very, very linear(bet ya didn't see that one coming. Yes, i contradict myself, so what?). Same shit all over again, but shiny missions(there are 4 different ones) make you feel like it's something new. Gets old really fast. Fun for the first couple of times.. and then you won't even notice it.
Most of us, however, play it for the face-stabbing part. Gotta admit, it is indeed very, very awesome. There could be slight trouble with targeting, but in the end, the hidden blade will find the face(neck, ribs, back..you decide). Oh and did I mention it being totally pleasurable? Well, it is. But for hardcore people, I still reccommend sex.
ZP has pretty much covered it, though. It said everything there is to say about the game.. well, except that there are tons and bloody tons of little graphical glitches(atleast with dx9), but other than that, the game behaves well.
I'd say it's one of those games you just have to try. Not complete, but try it, atleast.
Oh and it's almost impossible to exit the game. There are just too many steps you have to take for that. Maybe they're trying to give you time to reconsider...

Other than AC, i've been real artsy and trying my hand with Inkscape and Photoshop. Gotta admit, I was kind of expecting the image creation and manipulation to be more.. challenging. Well, at least it keeps me amused..
for now.
Oh and Inkscape isn't difficult to use at all. You just have to have some caffeine in your system when first starting to mess with the 'gram.

What else.. hmm.. ah yes: Not long ago i screwed a leather jacket.
Reinforced shoulders with 2 rows of 4 screws on both sides.

Greenish blue(unnatural goo) fake leather(almost rubber) jacket: 25.-
Chromed 2" screws stolen from my current job: 0.-
Leather padding made from thick high-quality stolen leather: 0.-
2 beers: 24.-
A pic of me wearing it: my dignity
The look on a girl's face when she recieved it for her bday: PRICELESS
???
Profit

Well, that is all. This rant has been written over an extended period of time, quite possibly over 2 months.
I could have said this on IRC, but
They speak in TOUNGES
